The Interreg EuroMED Programme supports cooperation across Mediterranean borders.

What is the aim of the Interreg EuroMEd Programme?
The Interreg MED Programme brings together partners from 69 regions from 14 countries on the northern shore of the Mediterranean. They work together for sustainable growth in the region.
The Programme supports projects that develop innovative concepts and practices and promote a sensible use of resources.
A call for thematic projects is launched focusing on the priorities of the “Smarter and Greener Mediterranean” programme and its related specific objectives:
- “A Smarter Mediterranean:
- “Development and improvement of research and innovation capacities and the adoption of advanced technologies”.
- Greener Mediterranean:
- Promoting the transition towards a circular and resource efficient economy”,
- “Promote adaptation to climate change and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches”, “Enhance protection and conservation of biodiversity and biodiversity”, “Promote the development of a sustainable and sustainable use of natural resources”.
- “Enhance protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and the reduction of all forms of pollution”.
Who is the interreg EuroMed Programme aimed at?
Beneficiaries can be:
- Public bodies or bodies governed by public law
- Private institutions
- International organisations acting under national or international law.
In order to participate in the programme, project partners must be located in the cooperation area of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme (69 regions) or in the European Union.
What type of support is it?
It is a non-repayable grant.
What is the size of the Interreg EuroMed Programme?
It will have € 294.000.000.
What kind of projects does it support?
The programme seeks to achieve certain objectives and to this end it has certain priorities to work on through the projects:
- Priority 1: Smarter Mediterranean. This priority aims to strengthen the commitment to society and increase the innovative potential of both the public and private sectors. The objective is to implement solutions for a sustainable and greener economy in the Mediterranean by consolidating existing research networks into a competitive research ecosystem.
- Priority 2: Greener Mediterranean. This priority aims to create a greener environment for the area by supporting efforts towards energy transition and circular economy.
To work on these priorities, projects are divided thematically into 4 categories:
- Study projects, carry out analyses to better address an issue and open the door to the development of new instruments, policies, strategies and action plans.
- Test projects, test common instruments, policies, strategies and action plans already developed to validate concrete solutions to be transferred.
- Transfer projects optimise and share validated common instruments, policies, strategies and action plans for actors to adopt.
- Territorial projects, carry out studies, test solutions and transfer results addressing the strategic issues of a given typology of territories.
What type of expenditure does the Interreg EuroMed Programme support?
The following costs apply within the framework of the Programme:
- Lump sum for project preparation costs, total amount is 37.000 €: This lump sum is compulsory for all projects. This simplified cost option exempts project partners from submitting any evidence of the existence or payment of costs related to the preparation of the proposal.
- Flat rate for the calculation of office and administrative costs, 15% of eligible staff costs: This flat rate is mandatory for all partners. This simplified costing option exempts project partners from submitting any evidence of the existence or payment of expenses covered by the category.
- Flat rate for the calculation of travel and accommodation costs, 15% or 22% of eligible staff costs: The applicable flat rate varies according to the location of the partners.
